Honor Flight


On Wednesday, May 28th, 2014, Harmon 8th Graders will have the honor of presenting a check to the Cleveland Honor Flight organization for XXX to sponsor 6+ area WWII and Korean War veterans on Honor Flight Missions to visit their war memorials in Washington D.C.

Accepting the donation will be Mr. Charlie McGibony, one of the Cleveland Honor Flight board members who is responsible for organizing the missions. He will be joined by 2 World War II veterans who have been on Honor Flights and who will speak to our 8th graders about their experiences.

Our two guest speakers are:

1. Mr. Harry Gunther: U.S. Army Air Corps, Flew on B-17 Flying Fortresses in Europe, was shot down over France, taken POW, and escaped.

2. Mr. Aaron Fox: U.S. Marine Corps, served in the Pacific and was involved in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Following this presentation, 8th graders are each asked to write a "mail call" letter to a WWII or Korean veteran for presentation to a veteran on the return flight of their Honor Flight mission this summer. Letters are due to be turned in on Thursday, May 29th.
